Yesterday was the Snow Moon. Even though Risshun (the beginning of spring on February 3rd) has passed, the lingering cold of midwinter still grips the air. Yet, nature is quietly preparing for the changing season. In about a month, the plum blossoms will begin to bloom, followed by peach and cherry blossoms, marking the gradual arrival of spring.
From spring to early summer, Osaki-Kamijima, a tranquil island in the Seto Inland Sea, enters its most beautiful season. A refreshing breeze dances across the sea, and the mountains come alive with birds singing in delight.
This island is an ideal setting for a retreat. The 30-minute ferry ride crosses the sea, a spiritual boundary, carrying you into a world entirely different from the fast-paced city life.
I personally see this place as The Island of Synchronicity—a place where arrival often feels guided by something beyond conscious intent. Some people plan to come but find themselves unable to, while others unexpectedly find their way here, as if drawn by an unseen force. It is truly “an island where sailors wait for the wind.”
Time here flows gently, yet it also slips away in an instant. This paradoxical sensation is undeniable. As you watch the sun slowly sink into the sea, letting yourself be immersed in this quiet mystery, memories from your past may surface like a flashback. Sometimes, even glimpses of the future appear.
That’s why I encourage guests to stay for at least five days—to fully experience the depth of self-
transformation that unfolds here. My usual retreat program is designed as a four-night, five-day journey.
However, I understand that in Japan, taking extended time off isn’t always easy.
So, during Golden Week, I will be offering a special 2-night, 3-day retreat—a condensed yet immersive experience.
If this resonates with you, I warmly invite you to join us.
May 3rd–5th
